*Please note that price is for ONE diamond certificate. If you are getting 2 diamonds (such as earring studs), you will need to buy 2 certificates (one for each diamond) as each certificate includes an analysis of ONE diamond.
*Non-Refundable as they are made to order and are unique to each diamond. Lab diamonds will be sent to IGI and they will use laser to engrave an ID code in to the lab diamond. The code will match the code on your certificate.
An IGI certificate for a lab diamond is an official grading report issued by the International Gemological Institute (IGI) that verifies the authenticity, quality, and characteristics of a laboratory-grown diamond.
What is IGI?
The International Gemological Institute (IGI), founded in 1975 in Antwerp, Belgium, is a leading independent gemological laboratory with a global presence. It is particularly known for being one of the first (pioneering in 2005) and largest certifiers of lab-grown diamonds.
What Does the Certificate Include?
An IGI Lab Grown Diamond Report typically evaluates the diamond using the standard 4Cs (the same as for natural diamonds):
- Carat (weight)
- Color (grade from D to Z)
- Clarity (inclusions and blemishes)
- Cut (proportions, symmetry, polish)
It also confirms:
- That the diamond is laboratory-grown (not natural).
- Physical, optical, and chemical properties (lab diamonds are identical to natural ones in these aspects).
- Any other relevant details like fluorescence, measurements, or inscriptions.
For jewelry pieces, IGI can also issue reports that describe the setting, metal type, and mounted stones.
Why Is It Important?
- Authenticity & Transparency — It proves the diamond is a genuine lab-grown stone (not synthetic simulants like cubic zirconia or moissanite) and provides an unbiased third-party assessment.
- Value & Resale — A certified diamond is more trustworthy for buyers and can support better resale value.
- Ethical & Sustainable Appeal — Lab diamonds are popular for being conflict-free and more affordable/eco-friendly; the certificate reinforces these claims.
- Peace of Mind — You can verify the report online via IGI’s website using the report number.
IGI vs. Other Certifiers (e.g., GIA)
IGI is widely trusted for lab-grown diamonds and often considered the go-to for them (they certify more lab diamonds than GIA). GIA is the gold standard for natural diamonds, but both are reputable for lab-grown stones. IGI reports are generally more affordable and accessible while maintaining high standards.
Always check the report number on IGI’s official verification page to ensure it’s legitimate. If you’re buying a lab diamond, an IGI certificate is a strong indicator of quality and helps you make an informed purchase.
